ADIDAS x PARLEY

MOGRAPH / ILLUSTRATION / TYPE

Adidas and Parley have teamed up to produce a sustainable sneaker created using recycled ocean plastics. When scanned the embedded NFC chip in the shoe’s sole directs smartphone users to a webpage tracing the journey of the marine debris — from threat into thread.

To highlight the sustainability efforts for the 18-25 year old demographic I’ve used an illustrative approach, vivid colors and eye-catching textures to depict an imaginary reality in which our litter swirls over land masses instead of the nebulously floating junkyards on the high seas.

My concept stems from traditions of thinking about Earth’s large bodies of water as otherworldly — an outlook which has contributed to the formation of phenomena like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The reality of the situation is that there is no away for us to throw our trash.
